About JMC Career Services
James Madison College is part of MSU’s wider Career Services Network, which serves students from their first year to graduation and beyond through career-focused programming and services.
The college hosts a range of in-person and virtual career programs aimed at helping students explore the various career paths available to them upon graduation, prepare for opportunities (both during and after college), and connect with alumni mentors and professionals in fields of interest. JMC's career support includes:
- Access to Handshake, MSU’s career management platform with thousands of internship and job postings.
- One-on-one advising appointments.
- A variety of career education resources to support students’ career exploration and planning processes, plus curated resources for students from specific populations.
- Career assessments for students exploring majors and career paths.
- MSU Connect, a platform connecting the Spartan community through mentorship and purposeful connections.
- Hundreds of annual career events aimed at exploring fields and connecting with alumni and employers, including in-person and virtual career fairs.
- Data on First Destination Career Outcomes for Spartans (published annually).
JMC’s Career Services office is led by Karissa Chabot-Purchase, who serves as Assistant Director of Career Services for JMC and specializes in advising on careers in education and public services and social and cultural studies.

How do I make an appointment with you?
To make a career advising appointment, Spartans can log into Handshake (using their MSU NetID and password), click on “Career Center,” then select “Appointments” and “Schedule a New Appointment.” Appointments are offered both in-person and virtually, year-round.

What does a typical appointment with you look like?
Appointments, which are offered in-person and virtually throughout the week, typically last 25-30 minutes. Students are able to select a topic and submit notes at the time of booking to steer the conversation.

Do I have to be a junior or senior to meet with you?
No! In fact, most students engage with the Career Services Network throughout their time at MSU.

What happens when I graduate?
Spartans have access to Career Services for two full years after they graduate.
